Field Notes
leaving the city
middle of the night
took your mom’s old beat up car
we drove until we couldn’t see the city anymore
sunrise over water
isn’t that what we came here for
the blue in your eyes
if only you could see what it was like
like old friends with nowhere to go
it’s glaring right back at me
half of me knows it won’t be like this forever
so take it all down in my field notes
december i made a promise
january’s all the same
we’ll climb this fountain as long as the water’s all drained
tell me where to next
tell me what you’re thinking of
we’ll walk this land until we can’t walk anymore
like old friends with nowhere to go
it’s glaring right back at me
half of me knows it won’t be like this forever
so take it all down in my field notes
back into the cold we’ll wander again
and now we are too far off the beaten path
can’t you see the tide’s rolling in
like old friends with nowhere to go
it’s glaring right back at me
half of me knows it won’t be like this forever
so take it all down
in my field notes
in my field notes
